Stress Management for Youth(ages 14-18)

The lives of today's teenagers are filled with stressful situations. While stress is inevitable, there are techniques to manage it that can reduce its negative impact on an individual or situation. Stress often has an extreme impact on teenagers because they are less experienced than adults at handling the changes they encounter in everyday life, and they are facing rapid hormonal and physical changes. The tips and techniques taught in Meditation are intended especially for teens to help navigate the difficult stresses they face.

Social stress: Teens can encounter social stress in many forms including peer pressure, bullying, teasing, striving for popularity, and romance.

Physical stress: During the teenage years, the human body undergoes rapid changes, all of which are stressful.

Raging hormones cause emotional and physical reactions and developing bodies are in constant flux. While these stresses happen to everyone, the teens who most successfully weather them are the ones who get to know their bodies. Physical fitness benefits teens mentally, emotionally and physically. Yoga, an age-old exercise practice, has recently become popular with teens for its use in stress reduction. Yoga promotes flexibility and strength, but also teaches breathing and physical awareness techniques that are extremely beneficial to stress reduction.
